Tools and Features Guide
Overview
The Tools and Features section in the WFM Planner application provides administrators and payroll staff with specialized utilities for managing the organization's workforce and automating background processes. Access to specific tools is controlled by your organization's feature entitlements and your individual user role.
Key Features
-
Organization Structure (Org Structure) A visual, interactive organizational chart that lets you view and manage your company's hierarchy. It includes tools for assigning staff to managers, removing them from the hierarchy, and managing unassigned staff. For detailed help, see the Organisation Structure Guide.
-
Timesheet Approvals A scheduling and monitoring interface designed to manage automated timesheet approval report generation tasks. It features real-time logging for active tasks and a history of completed reports.
Common Tasks
Managing the Organization Structure
- View the Hierarchy: Navigate to Tools > Org Structure to see the interactive tree. You can pan and zoom around the canvas to explore the reporting lines of your staff.
- Allocate Unassigned Staff: Staff who have not been assigned a manager appear in the Unassigned Staff Panel on the right side of the screen. You can select an unassigned staff member and allocate them to a manager node within the tree.
- Remove Staff: You can remove a staff member from their current position in the hierarchy by using the actions on their node. Removing a staff member places them back into the unassigned pool.
- Reallocate Staff / Detached Nodes: When moving an existing staff member (and their subordinates), the interface provides a "Detached Node" view, allowing you to safely re-allocate an entire branch of the hierarchy to a new manager.
- Need step-by-step help: Open the Organisation Structure Guide for a user-friendly walkthrough.
Automating Timesheet Approvals
- Configure the Schedule: Navigate to Tools > Timesheet Approvals. Use the Cron Scheduler widget at the top of the page to define exactly when background timesheet approval generation should run.
- Monitor Active Tasks: When an approval generation task begins, a live console will appear on the page. It provides a real-time progress bar and a streaming log of the background operations.
- Review Completed Tasks: Below the scheduler, you will find a list of previously completed tasks. You can expand these to view task metadata and historical logs.
UI Guide
The Org Structure Editor
The Org Structure interface is divided into two primary sections:
- The Main Canvas: The central area where the interactive D3 tree is rendered.
- The Side Panel: Located on the right. By default, it displays the Unassigned Staff Panel, which can be collapsed to maximize your viewing area. When performing a reallocation, this panel changes to the Detached Node view to assist in branch management.

The Timesheet Approvals Interface
The Timesheet Approvals interface consists of three main components:
- Cron Scheduler: A settings block for turning on and configuring automated schedules.
- Live Task Console: Appears only when a task is actively running. It displays a progress bar and live terminal-style logs.
- Task History Panels: A scrollable list of previously run reports, showing metadata and outcomes.
